farewell frida girl

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

There are dogs who shape our lives and give us comfort that we will always carry with us. Frida was one of those dogs. When I lived in S.F. I would commute to Berkeley to work for my friend, Annie, a fellow jewelry designer. We all had fun together working out of her beautiful home and with her sweet Rhodesian Ridgeback girl, Frida. Frida stole my heart. I moved to Lotus and hadn't seen Frida for 5 years. I had to see her. Last year I went by Annie's new house. Frida barked at me through the window. Oh my goodness, she doesn't remember me, I thought. Once I was in the house. She took a minute to get my scent & then kissed me and ran around and showed me so much love. That is a visit I will treasure. I just got the news that she passed away at the age of 10. The news is heartbreaking. It is also a lesson to visit that friend, call your Grandparent, visit with your elderly neighbor, take your dog on that extra long walk. Take the time and do it, you'll be so glad that you did. I'll be thinking of you, Miss Frida. You were one of a kind.

That is such a great word! Thanks for the cheer up.

My best friend, Stephen, lives in Denver with his Rhodesian Ridgeback, Scout, and she is the most wonderful, loving companion in the world. Next to my Maxine, she is my favorite puppy. I love Scout very, very much, and she is the sweet center of Stephen's life. I can't bear to imagine how sad he would be if he lost her. I visited them last month, thankfully, and you are so right about being mindful of those we care about. I'm so sorry to hear about Frida, Kristiana. Much love to you. (I finally updated my blog and can't thank you enough for the encouragement.)
