life on an island

I could get used to this island lifestyle. Osa and I have been staying on an island on Lake Winnipesaukee for a week now and we’re loving life.

Life is simple on the lake; it’s clear and present.

We went to the marina yesterday, a twenty-minute boat ride away. The skiff requires that you go at a slow and steady pace to keep it stable, so we were able to get glimpses and visual snapshots of life along the shore. There were sightings of different gatherings of kids, hanging out, Wii-free, just the lake and each other- no devices or distractions.

It was on that ride that I had my lake epiphany- I am a truly lake girl through and through.
You can take the girl out of the lake, but you can’t take the lake out of the girl. I grew up on this lake and it will ever be a part of me and has deeply shaped who I am.

Life is simple and peaceful and good at the lake. I really, really like it here. My soul has been comforted and welcomed here, year after year. Thank you, Lake Winni, you’ve been a true friend. I’ll miss you and I'll see you again soon.

Beautiful posts these last few, Kristiana. We share lake-love as I grew up on Lac La Belle in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. I remember a fabulous Chris Craft deeply coveted by my father. The property is for sale now, as my mother needs to be close these days so that we may care for her. It's hard to let go of the place; where I learned to sail and waterski, watched sunsets and sunrises, and dreamed countless dreams. My husband and I were married at the water's edge on a magnificent September evening almost 20 years ago. Thank goodness the memories aren't sold with the property - those are priceless. Thanks for all you share and inspire!
